Pickles with Nana

Nana shared her sweet-n-spicy homemade pickle recipe with us, while we were there visiting over Labor day.

Cast of Characters: sliced onions, garlic, sugar, hot sauce and one of those HUGE jars of dill pickles

Mom slicing the pickles

All the pickle slices
Then you layer the pickle slices, onion, garlic, sugar and hot sauce, until you fill the big jar (there aren't any measurements....you just put it in, per Nana)
Once you've filled the jar with all the ingredients you have to "roll" the jar back and forth until the sugar dissolves, it takes a lot longer than you'd think! And then leave it upright for 1 day, then the next day you turn in upside down (cover lid with foil in case it leaks) and continue to flip it every day for 7 days...then you have a huge jar of sweet-n-hot pickles, yummy!
