A Blogging Day of Silence for Cohen

July 1st Megan and Brent will be holding Cohen’s memorial service. The moment of silence is an opportunity for Megan’s blog community to stand behind her and support her on this difficult day. Linking up will give Megan a chance to see the support at a glance.

Best Salad I've Ever Eaten

Do yall watch that show on the Food Network, called The Best Thing I Ever Ate? Well, I had a food experience yesterday! I ate the best salad I've ever eaten! It was the Spinach Salad at Restaurant Ava. Spinach Salad - Poach-Fried Egg, Aged White Cheddar, House Smoked Bacon, Balsamic Vinaigrette. The picture above is MY salad, no stock google image. It was as beautiful as it was delicious. And that egg, well I could go on and on about that egg. Perfectly poached, and then battered and deep fried. When you cut into it the yolk was still runny. OH MY. I will be dreaming of this salad.

Horse Pills

I'm pretty sure I've mention it a few hundred times, but in case you forgot....I WORK IN A NUT HOUSE!

For some reason unbeknownst to me, my office buys hundreds of dollars of "stuff" for the office. Crackers, bread, butter, popcorn, 3 diff kinds of peanut butter, string cheese, every crazy condiment known to man (red wine vinegar, Tabasco, teryaki sauce), oatmeal, frozen fruit, tea, coffee, several variety of creamer, artificial sweeteners, cups, plates, napkins, EVERY soft drink ever made and the candy...OH MY WORD, tons of it, bags and bags and bags of it!

But this specific post is about the medicine drawer. The medicine drawer is part of that monthly $1,000 dollar trip to Walmart. There is anything you need and several different kinds of it. Upset tummy: pepto tablets, alk-seltzer, Rolaids OR prevacid if enchilada Wednesday if giving you heartburn. Headache: no problem we got the jumbo bottle of ibuprofen or if that is too hard on your tummy, we have Tylenol but if regular doesn't knock out your headache...well there is extra strength too. Don't worry they don't discriminate against the allergy sufferers, no'mam they get the biggest selection of all: Day Time SINUS, Allergy & Sinus, Benadryl, COLD & FLU, Extreme Congestion and on and on and on.

So just a minute ago, I went to that drawer looking for a band aid for my bleeding cuticle (I'm a "picker" from way back, but that's for another time and place) and in between the TUMS & the TIDE Pen I see the DAY TIME SINUS box and this hand written note:

{NEXT TIME CAN YOU GET SINUS PILLS THAT ARE NOT AS BIG AS THESE HORSE PILLS, PLEASE. THANKS}

Are you kidding me? Can you even imagine complaining about the FREE pharmacy? How about buy your own !#$%^&*allergy medicine like every other person does! And of course she didn't sign her name, but we all know the note was from the "mental health day" co-worker...."she has the handwriting of a serial killer" {name that movie for a dollar}

Favorite Things in my house

My house is full of things I love. Some I've bought, some were gifts, some are treasures from the trash.
So in no particular order....here we go!
These Staffordshire dogs. I loved them for years and have eye'd them on ebay for a long time....but they can be pretty pricey. So when I ran across this pair at the Weirs Country Store I snatched them up. They are currently on my mantle and they make me smile when I walk by them.
This basket was on the 66% off isle at Hobby Lobby and I think I paid $3.50 for it. I ran across this awesome cabbage at a DARLING store in Richardson called Beau Coup, the greenery I just had laying around. Dee arranged it and we hung on an empty wall in my kitchen/breakfast room. I love how it pops against that dark brown wall.
This rug was given to me by my Uncle Jeff. He used to be in the home building business and had an interior design company to accommodate his customers. When they closed the business he let us have a few things from the store. I had my eyes locked on this and just love it! It's currently in my entry way and the first thing you see when you walk in my house.
This dresser is in my "mistress bedroom". It belonged to my great-grandmother on my dad's side. The drawers don't pull in and out very easily, but I can't part with it. I also love the old smokey parts in the mirror. Thank you Ever, your dresser is still in good hands over 100 years later.My bed. It's the newest thing I've purchased and I still love it. I think it makes a statement.
It's big and heavy, but still swirl~ey and has that cottage feel.
I love my collection of transferware & gravy boats. Some are old, some are new.
Some are from ebay and others are from TJ Maxx, but I love the way they all look together. The shelf they are on...I dug that out of someones trash. Can you even believe that?

Ok, so those are my most favorite things in my house. So I'm tagging some friends to see what THEIR favorite things are. Angie, Ryan, Lesli, Nikki & Monica

Cilantro Rice

This rice is easy & delicious. If you are a cilantro fan, you'll LOVE it and make it once a week.

What you'll need: chicken broth, lime and Goya Cilantro cooking base
{Ryan introduced me to this and it's fabulous. Great on rice, fish, chicken, beef...I could eat it with a spoon, but then again I have food issues. It's on the ethnic food isle & walmart doesn't have it, just FYI}

chopped green onions, chopped cilantro & diced tomato
white rice cooked per package directions

There is no real instructions, cause you just dump all that goodness into the rice and let it"mellow" (as Landry would say). I thin out the cilantro base with a little chicken stock, use as much or as little depending on if you like your rice a little thicker or soupier.
I add 4 or 5 tablespoons of the cilantro base, a couple of tomatoes (you can used canned too), 1 chopped green onion, handful of chopped cilantro, juice of a lime and then a few dashes of chicken broth and salt; cover and let simmer on very low until ready to serve.

I serve the rice with this yummy roasted chicken

I made a really simple marinade of olive oil, garlic, lime juice, salt and pepper
Coat chicken in marinade and roast in a 375 degree oven for 25-30 mins depending on thickness, turning halfway through

cilantro rice, roasted chicken & black beans; easy, healthy & yummy dinner!

New Fridge!

I got a new fridge! I wasn't in the market for one...I had a perfectly good one. Although it didn't match all my other appliances, so when I got the call asking if I wanted a black one, I jumped on it.

Do I have good friends or what?
Not only do they give me their gently used fridge, they vacuum underneath it too?

Self Tanner

It's no secret that I am white as a ghost & covered with freckles, which means I don't get along with the sun, EVEN IF sunbathing was good for us! But self tanners have really come along way. Remember when you could spot an orange "bottle job" from a mile a way? I'm a big fan of Jergens natural glow. I even like the walmart store brand (insert shocked face here!). I'm not a fan of the fragrance of any of them (why do they have to stink?) and the fact that you have to stay naked so long to let it dry!

So I'm posing a question, what is your favorite tanning secrets. Do you have a brand you live by? Anyone have an odor free brand? Any good advice for fast drying? Help a sista out & leave a comment!

I apologize

That my blog has been SO BORING for an extended amount of time. Updating twice a week is not acceptable!

BUT....I have nothing interesting to talk about. Anyone got anything good to discuss? I must say that I've noticed others taking blogging hiatus as well. Has facebook taken away our wills to blog? PLEASE say no! I WANT to blog, I even googled "blog topics" but nothing good. Perhaps I'll make a list of ideas this weekend. And for crying out loud I'll try to take some pictures!

And I'll leave you with some old pictures of the cutest kids on earth!
